Trier, Germany (Day 1)

Like with the U.K., this ain’t my first rodeo i.e. I’ve been to Germany a few times before and seen Berlin (photo from, Munich (my photo) and one of my favorite places in the whole world – Bavaria and, in particular, Neuschwanstein Castle in Fussen (photo from Weiner Elementary School) also presently known as Cinderella’s Castle or the Disney Castle built by the eccentric Ludwig II who I would have very much liked to have known.  Ludwig only stayed in the castle a total of 11 nights.  Could you imagine what he would think if he knew millions of people visited this place a year and that good old Walt created his trademark based on this castle.  I assure you this place should be high on your list of places to see in your life. In fact, all of Germany should be.  I’m not sure I’ve seen a place more beautiful than Germany from the Rhine and Moselle River banks to the Black Forest to Bavaria, Germany is one of the pictures I have in my head of what heaven might look like.

This time Germany was the setting for my own fairy tale as I was there to visit my friend, Shaun, who I met in Honduras.  You guys might remember him better as the  “love story”. The setting of my fairy tale? Well to start – Trier.  We also visited some other German villages in the more north westerly part of Germany as well as Koblenz and I even got to stay in a castle in Bacharach – a real one! It was yet another check mark on my bucket list and the views from our room in the rotunda of the castle….well…breathtaking. The town of Bacharach itself shown above came straight from the fairy tale Hansel and Gretel or, more likely, the other way around.   Starting to pick up on a theme here?? This country has to be where fairy tales originated and hopefully where fairy tales come true 😘

As for Shaun, we were in perfect step once again. He is hands down the easiest person I’ve ever traveled with (that includes Rooms a/k/a Amira which are some astounding shoes to fill – but really the difference is female v male – Rooms is best female and Shaun is best male companion for traveling).  Anyway, I suspect I might miss him when I break away for my next destination – Hong Kong!

That’s all for now from the land of fairy tales – Germany.
